The Sagrada Família, Barcelona, Spain
(Cat No. 014, Gallery No. 6)

The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, often simply called the 'Sagrada Família', is a massive Roman Catholic church under construction in Barcelona, Spain. Work began in 1882 and continues to this day.

Europe's most unconventional church, it is the emblem of the capital city of the Catalonian region that likes to think of itself as individualistic.  Crammed with symbolism, inspired by nature and striving for originality it is Antoni Gaudí's greatest work and a 'must-see' for any visitor to Barcelona.

The building works are expected to be completed around 2026, the 100th anniversary of Gaudí's death, although the likelihood of meeting this deadline is hotly disputed.

For more information about this remarkable constuction refer to wikipedia.

Before / After

The main challenge in this photograph is fairly obvious - to erase the huge cranes that encircle the church.   Once this was done, a reddish tone was applied to the whole picture giving the stonework a much softer and warmer feel than the original blueish hue ..... leaving a  "photo-painting" that's much more pleasing on the eye and a glimpse into the future!
